I am applying for the above position that you have advertised in April 2021. This is because I have successfully completed a three-year global excellence scholarship programme as an Assistant Lecturer and Masters student at a reputable University in South Africa. During this time, I have acquired my M.Ed (with distinction) focusing on technology (in) Foundation Phase Education and published three research papers. I have also gained the relevant skills and strategies to function as a teacher trainer during these covid-19 times were remote learning has become favourable. This position, in my view, is the ideal progression for an emerging academic such as myself.
I am interested in this position because it provides the ideal opportunity for me (as a promising young academic) to be mentored with regards to postgraduate supervision of students, teaching and learning in a changing world and increased research output in high impact publications amongst other areas of mentorship. Nelson Mandela University has a rich history of academic excellence and I believe that as a young emerging scholar, I have the opportunity to significantly contribute to this history, particularly in the Faculty of Education for years to come.
As a B.Ed foundation phase graduate and fluent speaker of 8 of the 11 official languages in South Africa, I believe that I am an ideal novice practitioner, researcher and research supervisor in childhood education research in South Africa. My potential was identified early and as such, I was awarded an NRF grant holder bursary under the SarChi chair during my B.Ed. Honours and Masters studies. I have accumulated three years of teaching and learning experience in the higher education sector and coupled this with three conference proceedings and a contribution in a book chapter. This provides a glimpse at the academic output that can be expected from me as a successful candidate in the near future.

Koketso Andile Nthimbane is an ambitious and goal-driven Bachelor of Education Masters Graduate in Childhood Education. He served three years as a Foundation phase lecturer under the Global excellence scholarship, teaching modules such as Methodology and Practicum and teaching/professional studies. Koketso has a passion for ECD and Foundation Phase education. He believes that leaders in the field of education should be driven by care and strive to be academic experts of the young learners and students they serve. In our endeavor to develop and teach the young South Africans, it is important for us to take the time to understand and eradicate the challenges they face in their early learning years.
